QA : Why did Japan see fit to bring the USA in to WW2?

I’m sure the answer is simple enough but I can’t see it, and we nenver got taught it at school. Surely if the USA was neutral, bombing it would be like kicking a sleeping bear in the crotch?

Japanese authority figures viewed themselves as First Class
citizens. Koreans were deemed by Japanese as Second Class. Except for those having concluded formal mutual
aggression and defence pact treaties everyone else was deemed Third Class. The USA lost its Pacific Big Boys
and most oversea assets because it was inferior in tactics,
training, and time table to advance technology. Americans had to be kicked out of bed just to get their full attention.

It was a gamble….to knock out the Pacific Fleet in one blow hoping that US public opinion would keep them out of the war due to anti-war sentiment and isolationist rhetoric currently spread throughout the country. The US oil embargo meant that Japan’s imperialistic policies could not be maintained.

Alls it did was the ‘wake the sleeping giant…” however.

It had put an embargo on supplying certain strategic materials to Japan in protest at its expansionist policy in East Asia.
